“We wanted to get married in a really special place. In my job as a stylist for wedding and event florist Planet Flowers, I see a lot of the phenomenal venues Edinburgh has to offer. The Lady Vic at the National Mining Museum is a hidden gem. I could totally see the potential in the place – it was beautifully industrial, which was exactly what we were looking for.

We took our inspiration from the Victorian building and went from there. Lots of raw materials and copper highlights with a few nods to our personalities. Matt is a scientist, so we did a ‘periodic table plan’, with test tube favours and elemental symbol name cards.

Planet Flowers are quite simply the best! We went for succulents in copper cans with purple accents, and loved that they gave a great balance of hard and soft. We also had black calla lily buttonholes bound with twine and copper wire, and Gemma at Planet Flowers came up with the idea of creating copper wrist cuffs with succulents on them for the groomsmaids. I am so proud to work for one of the best wedding stylists in Scotland.

Our photographer Zöe was incredible; we warmed to her immediately. She got our style and was an incredible conduit for filtering our wedding day and distilling it into the most spectacular images. Although we didn’t know Zöe before the wedding (she was a recommendation from my boss), following our gorgeous engagement shoot at an abandoned airfield in Fife, we had a real friend in her by the big day.

Matt is a bit of a foodie so he oversaw all the food elements, including a really personal wedding breakfast menu which had a bánh mì starter as a nod to his Vietnamese heritage. We also hired five of Scotland’s best food trucks for our evening buffet and had them create tapas-sized dishes so our guests could taste a little bit from everyone.”

Top tip: “Do YOU! Our wedding worked so well because it had us running through its veins. Don’t try to copy and paste something you’ve seen because you think it will impress your guests. If you’re both having a great time, we promise you your guests will be right there with you!”
