“David proposed on the morning of my 21st birthday. He gave me a beautiful locket before saying, ‘that’s not all’. Little did I know there was also an engagement ring tucked under the box. When I discovered it, I was blown away and I couldn’t find the words to answer him. I phoned my mum right away, screaming excitedly down the phone – only then I said yes!
The Glynhill Hotel in Renfrew was an easy choice for us as it’s only five minutes from our house and was perfect for most of our guests. We held both ceremony and reception there. I absolutely adore all things vintage, so shabby chic lace became the main look of the day.
I really enjoyed making a lot of DIY finishing touches for the wedding along with my eldest sister. I shouldn’t forget to mention my middle sister who kept us totally concentrated on the job at hand! Alongside rustic-looking table centrepieces, bunting, candles, logs, artificial peonies and jars decorated with ribbon lace and twine, we created a beautiful vintage suitcase as the table plan (using a case from the The Magpie’s Eye in Govan) with all the tables named after places David and I had travelled to together.
I fell in love with an Enzoani Dakota gown when I visited a boutique in Glasgow. It was £2,000 which was sadly outwith my price range, so I managed to find the same gown second hand and had it altered by Fabricated Bridal Alterations to fit my figure.
One of the highlights of the day was a surprise appearance from the Paisley Pipers organised by my sister. All our guests loved that we had The Kilted Caricaturist sketch them while we were off getting our photos taken.
Top tip: Aim to have everything totally organised a month before so you can enjoy every little detail in the run-up to the wedding.”
