Beauty Monitor: Make-up artists top looks

We asked some of Scotland’s top make-up artists to talk us through their favourite bridal looks

Ana Cruzalegui, Laura Dawson, Ramilla Hair and Make-up
ANA CRUZALEGUI (1) the look “I love to use Embryolisse Lait Creme Concentre to moisturise as it replenishes the skin and acts as a fantastic primer for make-up. To achieve flawless skin, I applied Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation, correcting any flaws using MAC Studio Sculpt concealer. For a velvet finish, I dusted MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Powder over the face. On the eyes, I used MAC eyeshadow lined with Bobbi Brown Gel Liner and a few coats of Diorshow mascara. Finally for contour and colour, I used MAC Powder Blush in Gingerly on the cheeks and Nars lipgloss on the lips.”
top tip “Keep to a strict skincare regime and invest in a good day and night serum. I love Estee Lauder Pore Minimizer for Day and Night Repair just before bed.”

LAURA DAWSON (2) the look “I used foundation over primer, building up the coverage until completely flawless. On the eyes, I used a golden shade to enhance the bride’s blue eyes and added smoky grey to line and contour. Strip lashes were added for extra oomph, while lips and blush were kept fresh and feminine in soft pink.”
top tip “Let your skin glow with health. Drink plenty of water on the run-up to the wedding. The difference it makes is incredible.”

RAMILLA HAIR AND MAKE-UP (3) the look “To achieve this dramatic 60s-inspired look, I initially moisturised and primed the skin, before applying Prescriptives foundation. On the eyes, I used MAC eyeshadow, starting at the lashline and blending up. A waterproof liquid eyeliner and a shimmer over the lid added definition, while a sweep of Diorshow mascara and a few false eyelashes created a wide-eyed look. Some Ruby & Millie blush, finishing powder and a slick of pink lipgloss complete the face.”
top tip “Don’t forget your nails. On your wedding day a lot of attention will be paid to your new wedding ring and hands.”

MARIANNE GIBSON (4) the look “This is a fresh polished look which would be suited to brides looking for a modern, dewy finish. I used soft nude tones on the cheeks and lips to balance out smoky eyes, leaving the make-up evenly proportioned. I highlighted the cheekbone, brown bone and cupid’s bow to create luminosity for a soft, radiant glow.”

KAREN BOWEN (5) the look “After applying primer, I added MAC Strobe Cream to the foundation to give illumination to the skin. To emphasise the eyes, I drew a thin line of brown eyeliner gel along the top lid after eyeshadow. I then used pink blush under the cheekbones to sculpt and highlighter on the cheekbone to enhance.”
top tip “Ask for individual eyelash extensions as they add emphasis and look great in photographs.”

CRAIG ALEXANDER WILSON (6) the look “For this modern version of Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady, I first created a luminous base, then made-up the eyes in a shimmering silver with slate grey socket, liquid gel liner and natural hair lashes. I blended a little cream blush onto the apples of the cheek and applied a pearly pink highlighter pop on top.”
top tip “Don’t go tan-tastic. Don’t over fake-it and never be darker than the groom – it’s not a good look and it looks odd in photos.”

SC MAKE-UP ARTISTRY (7) the look “After prepping and priming the skin, I used Estee Lauder foundation and Bobbi Brown products to correct and conceal, finished with a Chanel powder. I then defined and shaped the brows before applying Chanel shadows and mascara to the eyes. After contouring and highlighting the face, I finished with a slick of MAC lipgloss.”

JOANNE BROWN (8) the look “I made the most of this bride’s amazing green eyes by intensifying their colour with a smoky grey MAC eyeshadow and hints of cool purples before lining and opening up the eyes with false eyelashes. To create a flawless complexion, I used Jane Iredale foundation – one of my favourites – while pretty pink lip colour and soft rosy pink cheeks complement the face beautifully.”

STARDUSTS (9) the look “I kept foundation to minimum as this bride had great skin – just enough to keep the shine off the face. We chose a light iridescent base with a soft grey round the eye socket, before accentuating with a soft gel eyeliner on top and bottom. I applied some individual eyelashes to the outer corners too, before sweeping a flattering pink blush on the cheeks and finishing with a MAC lipstick and gloss.”

LUCY GOURLAY (10) the look “I started with a light layer of mineral makeup to create a flawless, fresh-faced finish. To create subtle smoky eyes, I applied a dark eyeshadow slightly dampened to the outer corner of the eyes, close to the lashes. A delicate pink swept onto the apple of the cheeks gives a natural healthy glow, finished with a lip colour not much darker than the natural colour of the lips.”

FIONA HENDERSON (11) the look “I applied primer, foundation and setting powder to get a flawless, matt, long-lasting finish. I then dusted light pearl eyeshadow over the eyelid for an instant glow and worked apricot eyeshadow into the crease line, before blending matt brown eyeshadow into the outer edge of the eyelid for definition. To finish the eyes, I lined with liquid eyeliner and applied mascara to top and bottom lashes. An apricot blusher and matching apricot lipstick complete the face.”
