“We love Troon and we knew straight away this was where we wanted to get married. Lochgreen House Hotel is somewhere we had visited together lots of times before so it held a special place in our hearts. It has stunning grounds and an amazing setting next to the beach.
Our local minister, Reverend Derek Gunn, conducted the ceremony. He is the minister at the school I work in as well as being a family friend, so he made the ceremony touching and personal. My dad passed away suddenly in 2013 and Rev. Gunn appropriately mentioned him without making anyone too upset.
My brother walked me down the aisle. It really meant a lot that he was there for me on the day. He did everything that I know my dad would have loved to do if he was still with us. His speech was amazing and I was so proud of him. I didn’t know until later that my brother had my dad’s wedding ring in his sporran all day. I also had a small jewelled photo frame with my dad’s picture which was tied into my bouquet, so he was with me. Touches like that really made my day!
Supernova Wedding Design & Flowers was our star supplier. They transformed the ceremony room with petals, candles, an ivory aisle runner and stunning flower arrangements. They even created a gorgeous flower wall for me (my favourite wedding detail) which drew so many admiring comments.
I tried on lots of dresses in lots of bridal shops and eventually chose a Pronovias dress from Ivory Pinks in Bothwell. I loved it because it was classic and timeless. Everyone in the shop said I looked like Audrey Hepburn wearing it – a massive compliment!
Pianist Alex Graham was a total hit. He played for guests arriving, ceremony, drinks reception and meal. Guests could text him requests for songs and he even played dance tunes. Everyone was singing along when their songs came on.”
Top tip: “Set a budget. We didn’t (bad idea!) and discovered just how easy it is to spend a lot of money without really meaning to on a wedding.”
