Fashion insider Q&A : Sassi Holford

Fashion insider : Designer-to-the stars Sassi Holford tells us what makes her tick and shares her bridal style secrets

What is your signature style? Classic, British bridal design with a contemporary twist.

How has your style evolved over the years? My design instinct has always been to flatter the female form and with an ethos of ‘less is more’. Over the past decade the increased creativity of wedding celebrations has led me to explore the possibilities of combining more varied and exciting fabrics.

Who or what inspires you? When I’m working in my boutiques, I find my brides to be a constant source of inspiration: they share their ideas and opinions with me and their enthusiasm really motivates and inspires me.

Who are your icons? I have always considered timeless icons, particularly Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn, to be great influences in my work.

What can’t you live without? My husband and my children.

Where is your haven? My home – it’s a sociable house, always full of friends, family, food and wine.

Where are your favourite destinations abroad? Anywhere I can get to in three hours and is architecturally or naturally beautiful.

What do you never leave home without? My diamond engagement, wedding and eternity rings.

What made your own wedding day truly special? The spontaneity – so many little things didn’t quite go to plan!

What would you do differently if you were to do it all over again? Less planning!

What is the most memorable wedding you’ve attended? My own, of course, particularly when designer Beverly Lister set fire to her ostrich feather hat with a candle in the church!

Who has been your favourite celebrity bride? Autumn Kelly’s wedding to Princess Anne’s son Peter Phillips at Windsor Castle because he was the first of the Queen’s grandchildren to tie the knot, and because Autumn was simply delightful and so easy to work with. What’s the biggest mistake a bride-to-be can make? From my slightly biased perspective, it would be to let her friend or relative choose her dress for her.

What’s your top tip for brides-to-be? Be yourself, relax into the day and enjoy it – it really does seem to go so quickly!
