Sceptical about online dating? Look to Jules Smith and Steve McWee, who owe their marriage to Match.com. “We were both on it partly for a laugh but also to see if it worked,” smiles Jules. “And it did! We chatted for a while and then met up for coffee in December 2007. The first date flew by and before saying goodbye, we had already arranged a second date.”
A proposal at Disney World, Florida, with a novelty penguin ring followed six years later: “It was perfect as it meant I could go ring shopping and actually had one specially made by John Macintyre and Son.”
The church Jules grew up attending, St Brides RC in Cambuslang, set the scene for the ceremony, while Lochside House Hotel offered a “spectacular” backdrop for the reception and Ron Young’s vibrant, sun-drenched photographs: “It blew us away,” admits the bride.
Jules’ cathedral-length veil, though billowing beautifully in the shots, was not as well behaved off-camera. “Three days before, I tried my veil on and had a minor meltdown,” remembers Jules. “I couldn’t get it to sit as it had in my fittings, but Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo Bridal Boutique sorted it all out. Then, on the day, my dad stood on the veil at the end of the aisle, almost taking my head off! You have to laugh!”
