“We got engaged in April 2015 on a chilly deserted beach on the Isle of Harris with our son Harris and dog running around. The island doesn’t have good phone signal so we couldn’t tell anyone until we came home – it was so lovely celebrating our engagement just us for almost a week.

Ross has graduated twice from Glasgow School of Art, so we were able to get married at the breathtaking University of Glasgow Memorial Chapel. For our reception, we’d looked at several venues but couldn’t agree. A friend went to a wedding show at the Loch Lomond Arms Hotel and recommended it to us. We loved its gorgeous location and cosy, comfortable Scottish-ness.

The day before the wedding I managed to lose my shoes and my fake tan turned green, but luckily I saw the funny side and kept calm while my amazing bridesmaids came to the rescue!

Ross decided to wear the Lindsay tartan, and he said this was one of his highlights of the day. Howie at 21st Century Kilts also made a cute miniature version for our son Harris, who is two-and-a-half. He decided after the meal not to bother putting his kilt back on.

We had a monogram of our initials throughout our day, and one of Ross’ friends Laura Henderson is an illustrator so she made some hand-printed signs for the evening reception. We also personalised our day by having my brother drive my late father’s car on the day, and Ross had the organist at the chapel play a song that was really special to him and his dad, who has also sadly passed away.”

Top tip: “Your wedding is your one chance to go for it and make a special and memorable day you both want – we are gutted we can’t do it all over again!”
