“We knew we wanted to get married on the banks of Loch Lomond. We were hoping to tie the knot on our six-year anniversary, 14th August 2015 (which is also my grandparents’ wedding anniversary), but that date was already taken at The Cruin so we settled on 15th August.

The Cruin was the first venue I checked out. It was relaxed and private with amazing views, and I just knew that Bray would love it. It also allowed guests to select from three menu options on every course and I didn’t find any other venue that offered that.

Our humanist ceremony was conducted by John Gordon. We loved the idea of an easy-going, personalised ceremony involving our friends and family. We had two friends do readings (one of which was original), and we also had a Celtic handfasting, which involved both sets of parents.

I didn’t go overboard with extras on top of what was already there at the Cruin. I loved the rustic Scottish appeal of the venue so I just paid attention to the table décor and added a lot of flower arrangements, along with candles and fairylights for the evening.

The speeches have to be one of my favourite parts. Brayden has never shed a tear in the seven years I’ve known him and he almost had to use a tissue during his speech! All four of our parents spoke, as did Bray’s brother Jordan who was best man. There was hardly a dry eye in the house. It was amazing to feel all the love in the room.

We went outside for some photos as the sun was going down. We were on the beach when someone yelled, “Get in the water!” I think everyone was a little surprised when I took off my stockings and shoes, gathered up my dress and paddled in! Bray then followed behind me and had a wee dip too.

Top tip: My best friend gave me great advice: don’t sweat the small stuff!”
