PHOTO ALBUM: Scottish castles with a fairytale backdrop for your wedding
We’re lucky enough to have a fair few castles in Scotland. Fifty? Two hundred? Wait for it: since the 11th century it’s thought over 2000 castles have been built across the country. Not all remain, but we’re up there with the most castles per square mile (well done to our neighbours Wales who’ve claimed the title).
If you harbour aspirations of a regal big day, your first task is to work out what castle suits your style. History buffs will fall for Eilean Donan, Edinburgh Castle or Linlithgow Palace. Partial to a bit of luxury? Newly renovated Crossbasket Castle or chic Airth Castle will be right up your street. And don’t presume that getting married at a castle means being out in the wilderness: both Sherbrooke Castle and Melville Castle are conveniently located outside major cities Glasgow and Edinburgh.
