TTKS Tries: Little Botanica’s floral crown workshop

Little Botanica offers fun classes crafting beautiful wedding blooms in its studio nestled under a bridge not far from Glasgow city centre

I’ll admit that my first foray into the world of floral crown crafting wasn’t particularly successful; an initial attempt at an event last year definitely left room for improvement! I knew if I ventured into a florist’s studio again, I’d be ready with better ideas and nimble fingers. Thankfully, I was armed with both when I took part in Little Botanica‘s recent workshop.

A group of six of us came together in the Glasgow floral wonderland to take part in a class dedicated to blooms to be worn on your noggin. We started with a wander round the premises taking in the modern, Scandi-style decor before we were treated to the most delicious gourmet hot chocolate on the planet and floral-inspired treats from west-end bakery Tantrum Doughnuts.

As we munched and sipped, Little Botanica’s head honcho for the day Jenni Fergie talked us through each of the steps required to make the flower-adorned circlets. We were given lots of bright and bold single stems to play with, alongside a selection of foliage to add a rustic vibe to our crowns. I was due to attend the Scottish Confetti Wedding Awards that night wearing a green and white dress, so I opted to craft a rich red, green and white crown to complete my outfit.

Once Jenni had pointed us in the right direction, we were ready to get creative with the bountiful blossoms. Some were pre-wired to get us on a fast-track to crowning glory. Thankfully, Jenni and Little Botanica cohort Elaina were on hand to help our clumsy fingers mould the works of wearable art.

The workshop is perfect for beginners – when a few of us whimpered in frustration due to wilting petals, either Jenni or Elaina were over in a flash to tie up any loose ends and add a professional touch, although as the morning progressed, I watched as most of the class attendees began to get a hang of the skills (me included!) involved in bringing a crown together.

After two hours – which went by in a flash – our crowns were ready to be finished with ribbon and modelled for a few group snaps by the photo wall. And, yes, I did wear my crown to the awards do and was showered in compliments on my handiwork!

Little Botanica offers a range of bespoke classes and workshops as a private event for hen parties and stag dos. Simply get in touch with your idea, date and number of attendees and the team will start putting together a plan. Flowers, fun and fizz? Yes please. Prices from £54 per head.
