Your summer beauty essentials

Make sure you’re prepped for the warmer weather – Scotland, plz – with products to protect and polish your skin, hair and body

Sun Care Protective Hair Veil, £21.50, Aveda
Keep colour-coated hair safe with this UV defence mist, which will protect your locks against sun damage for up to 16 hours. It's water resistant so the pool – or the sporadic rain showers our summers are peppered with – won't wash away the blend of shea butter, ylang ylang and green tea extract.

Beach Body Scrub, £25, Bobbi Brown
A good exfoliation both helps you banish winter skin and preps you for safe tanning (not to mention removing dodgy fake tan). The orange peel and pumice in this scrub from the new Beach range by Bobbi Brown will gently, yet effectively, slough rough skin and leave you smelling great and feeling silky soft.

Flawless Coconut Tanning Serum for Face and Body, £29.95, Fake Bake
Oils are rapidly becoming the must-have beauty buy for 2016. Coconut oil is a great multi-purpose product for skin, body and err.. frying your dinner, but we much prefer Fake Bake's latest launch, which infuses its award-winning tan with the oil.

Coco Loco Coconut Mask, £6.99, Lee Stafford at Boots
More coconut loving – no surprise when it's the ultimate scent of summer: one sniff and you're practically drinking a piña colada and listening to Bob Marley – with this hair mask. Slather this on between shampooing and conditioning and treat dry and weak ends to some TLC.

Soleil Plaisir SPF30, £29, Darphin
It's no secret that good SPF coverage is an absolute summer must-have, but pull this out of your beach bag and you're sure to draw admiring glances. Not only is the luxe brand's suncare fragrant and non-greasy, but it contains ingredient-of-the-moment hyaluronic acid, making it anti-aging.

Vitamin E Lip Care SPF 15, £5, The Body Shop
You've coated your face and body in sunscreen, but have you forgotten your lips? Failure to do so will leave you feeling like you've been downing flaming sambucas all day (no judgement if you have, though). Slick on this SPF 15 lip balm to tackle the sun-related side of things.

Moisture Surge Face Spray, £22, Clinique
There's been an explosion of facial mists on the market recently, as we fall head over heels for the instant burst of hydration for tired, dry skin. Our fave is from Clinique's Moisture Surge range, as it can be applied under or over makeup and doesn't leave skin oily.

Double Fix' Mascara, £20, Clarins
Hitting up pool parties in Vegas or Ibiza? Fake lashes are a bit try-hard, so you might be on the hunt for a waterproof mascara. Stick to your fail-safe favourite but touch it up with a coat of Double Fix', as it will transform any mascara into splash-proof and party ready. You can even use it on your brows.
Dew the Hoola, £22.50, Benefit
This matte bronzer won a Tatler Beauty Award this year, and it was a well-deserved win! Tide lines and tell-tale orange tones are a thing of the past, and its silky liquid texture is a refreshing change from dabbing on powder. Oh, and it smells so lush.

Awapuhi Wild Ginger Texturizing Sea Spray, £20.50, Paul Mitchell at Feel Unique
Tousled, textured laid-back hair is never more celebrated than during summer. Work your beachy waves with this salt spray that adds body using Awapuhi extract, which prevents the crunchy, dried-out feel that the real beach-day tresses have.

Double Usage After-Sun, £13, Vichy
If you've managed to burn – and it does happen to the best of us – you want to spend every waking minute coating yourself in aftersun. This Vichy spray can be used both in the shower and when dry, making the perma-soothing dream a reality.

Au Lait Body Butter, £11.50, Scottish Fine Soaps
Cleopatra bathed in the stuff, so indulge your inner queen with this organic milk and cocoa butter moisturiser from home-grown heroes Scottish Fine Soaps. Avoid the temptation to sip a spoonful though!

Tom Ford Orchid Soleil Eau De Parfum, £76 for 50ml, John Lewis
The sexy scent of Tom Ford's fragrances are notorious, but the latest addition to the squad puts a summery spin on these seductive spritzes. Notes of pink peppercorn, orchid, tuberose, and vanilla chestnut cream all fuse to make this a midsummer night's dream of a fragrance.

Phizz 'The Petite', £4.99 for 10, Amazon
Picnics that turn into parties, festivals, holidays and other weddings all mean that hedonism reigns supreme during the summer months. If this sounds like you, hold back the (whitey) river with Phizz tablets. Drop one of these effervescent rehydration supplements into water and get ready to flood your body with much-needed vitamins and minerals.
Footner Exfoliating Socks, £14.99, Boots
Not for the faint-hearted, Footner socks are a game-changer when it comes to sorting your feet out fast. Pop the socks on for an hour and over the next seven days, skin will peel away to reveal baby-soft skin underneath. Utterly disgusting? Yes. Undeniable results and 100% would do again? Yup!
