Sara and Ben were the first over the threshold at the stunning new Donald J Trump ballroom and were wowed by the sumptuous interiors and world-class service
Sara Blair Hughes and Ben Hughes married on 3rd September 2016 at Our Lady of the Assumption and Saint Meddan, Troon, followed by a reception at Trump Turnberry, a Luxury Collection Resort.
“We got engaged in August 2015 and started planning our wedding almost immediately. We were looking for an iconic venue in the west of Scotland and Trump Turnberry came top of the list. It was in the process of being fully refurbished when we booked and we knew it would be absolutely beautiful when it was completed.
The new Donald J Trump ballroom is set against breathtaking views of the coastline – it was our dream venue and when we found out we were going to the first wedding in the ballroom we knew it was going to be extra special.
Throughout the process we had a number of meetings with Carrie, our wedding co-ordinator, who was extremely helpful. Having a strong idea of what we wanted definitely helped, so by the time our wedding day arrived it was finely tuned to ensure it ran perfectly. Carrie stayed until the end of the evening entertainment to oversee everything which was fantastic.
The choice of menu and drinks was very important as we wanted our guests to have an amazing experience. We were able to discuss this with Carrie who put together a menu and wine tasting session which helped us to come to a decision. On the day itself the service and food were excellent.
Adding extra touches to put our own stamp on the day was a priority, and the hotel was happy to accommodate our requests. It can be a long day for your guests so we wanted to ensure they had plenty to eat and drink and enough happening to entertain them throughout.
We had ice cream company Vanilla Joes at the drinks reception who provided alcoholic and non-alcoholic sorbets. We decided to offer our favourite drinks as flavours: passionfruit mojito, limoncello and strawberry daiquiri. They were delicious! Vanilla Joes also provided a selection of desserts to be served at the evening buffet including cookie dough, chocolate brownies and a selection of mini ice creams – it all went down a treat! Unsurprisingly, the Jägerbomb table also proved to be very popular.
One of our favourite moments from the day was our fireworks display, which was followed by a live performance by The Red Hot Chilli Pipers.
We would definitely recommend visiting your venue throughout the wedding planning process – go for lunch and have a walk around to really get a flavour of the place. Another piece of advice would be communicate well with your coordinator and keep notes. Oh, and if you’re lucky enough to have your wedding at Trump Turnberry, don’t rush away the next day. Maximise your experience and enjoy every minute. We relaxed on the balcony of our honeymoon suite sipping champagne with family and friends and it was amazing listening to everyone’s stories about the day.
We can’t wait to go back to celebrate our first anniversary!”
