A tale of two sides of the city for this big day in Glasgow

Venue | University of Glasgow Memorial Chapel and Saint Luke’s & The Winged Ox, Glasgow

“We chose Glasgow University Chapel as our ceremony venue and Saint Luke’s and the Winged Ox as our reception venue. Adam is a Glasgow University graduate and we both loved the setting and grandeur of the Chapel.

For our reception venue, we wanted it to be in Glasgow so it was close to the ceremony, however, we really liked the idea of something a bit more quirky as a contrast. When we found the fantastic venue within Saint Luke’s – and its amazing wedding organiser Alison – it was a no-brainer!

Our ceremony was a Church of Scotland service and our minister, Tom Nelson, is a close family friend, which made our ceremony very special and personal. It was a traditional service, but we put our own modern spin on it too.

We were keen to have traditional wedding vows and also wanted to include a hand-fasting using material belonging to our grandparents. For the reception though, we kept things more laid back, putting our own twist on things.

We showcased many photos of family and friends through the years, as well the odd, subtle reference to the TV show ‘Friends’ – like most of the UK, were big fans so we couldn’t resist.

The thing that surprised us most about getting married was the generosity of our friends and family, whether it was from incredibly generous gifts, the travel incurred to be with us on the day, or the time they dedicated to help during planning – the kindness and love shown by everyone honestly completely blew us away.”

Top tip: “Use a spreadsheet to work out all your potential costs early on and then use it to track things along the way – you’ll be surprised at how many things you need or how much you actually end up buying without realising!”
