“The first thing we did was choose the venue – we booked the Radstone Hotel 19 days after we got engaged! We loved the interior, and decided to hold our whole day there as guests wouldn’t have to worry about getting from one venue to another.
We wanted a good old-fashioned wedding, so concentrated on great food and music throughout to ensure everyone had an amazing time.
We found a colour board on Pinterest that we both loved and went with it – black and white stripes, crimson red and duck egg blue. We also had a music theme and spent over a year collecting quotes from songs and choosing the music we wanted for each part of the day. The quotes were used on all our wedding stationery, which I made myself, from the save the dates right through to the table plan.
I was so grateful to some of my suppliers for being flexible and accommodating last-minute changes. We changed cake suppliers a month before the big day as we were unhappy with our first choice and Shona from The Magical Cake Company was fantastic, she made exactly what we asked for and even helped me surprise John with a hidden Batman logo on the back of the cake.
My parents had arranged a surprise for the big day: in between our dinner courses we were surprised with Jimmy and Valentino, who are singing waiters. They are fantastic singers and put on a great comedy show that seemed to go down well with everyone at the wedding!
Top tip: Stick to your own decisions and choices. Everyone will have an opinion and view on your big day, but remember you have to be happy with it when the big day finally comes round!”
