“We decided to get married in Luss as it is the ancestral home of the Colquhoun Clan and as I was saying goodbye to being a Colquhoun I couldn’t have had the wedding anywhere else. I made a secret promise to myself when I was a small child and that I would get married in Luss Parish Church and luckily my husband-to-be loved Luss and agreed!
I adored every minute of being creative and planning all of the little details for the day. Most of the décor was hand-made by my mum and I. We searched loads of markets and charity shops for items which would suit the vintage feel I wanted to create.
I searched everywhere for vintage fabric chair sashes to tie around the chiavari chairs but I couldn’t find the fabric that would create the look I wanted. One of my all time favourite fabrics is broderie anglaise and after months of searching suppliers and not getting anywhere my mother kindly agreed to make all 70 chair sashes in broderie anglaise for us!
As we are from Sunderland, we chose a local wedding photographer whose work I had followed for many years. Helen Russell specialises in vintage fine-art photography and her style suited our wedding perfectly. She is one talented lady and we can’t thank her enough for our amazing photos. Her innate eye for detail captured the day perfectly.
The best part our big day was having all our family and friends together in one place. As the wedding was away from home all of our guests stayed the full weekend and we really made a party of it. There was a magical, joyous atmosphere which is certainly reflected in our pictures – there is not one photo where our guests aren’t beaming and smiling from ear to ear.
Top tip: Stay true to your own style and vision of your wedding day. That way you won’t have any regrets.”
