“Before we chose our venue, we sorted out our guest list and budget. Then we booked Pratis Barns, which was exactly what we wanted for our day. It’s a blank canvas and has a real relaxed feel to it, plus the grounds are lovely for photos and the views are amazing.
As the venue is a converted barn, we stuck with that theme. Everything was very rustic and we had lots of pastel flowers, crates, milk churns and little metal buckets to dress the space. I’m a wedding planner so we got lots of bargains from suppliers I deal with – we were really lucky.
Angus is from New Zealand and I’m Scottish, so we had a thistle and fern design across all our stationery. We named tables after places we have visited, and created a display of polaroid photos from our trips using a wooden palette to fit in with the theme. Instead of a standard guest book, we personalised a bucket and asked our guests to put ideas for our bucket list in it. We called it ‘The Duckett’s Bucket’.
It’s tough to single out one supplier but Gary at Gary Moore Catering was absolutely amazing from start to finish. He created a delicious menu for 116 guests that everybody raved about. Gary and his colleague Sarah even pitched in setting up the venue and helped throughout the day. They couldn’t do enough for us.
I had so many highlights. It was emotional when my dad came to collect me and when I saw Angus waiting for me at the top of the aisle. During our first dance, my four year-old nephew decided to sit on my train. We continued dancing and he got dragged around the dancefloor – it was a lot of fun!”
Top tip: “Set your budget at the start and stick to it – it is so easy to get carried away.”
