“Our world has changed,” acknowledges British designer and bridal behemoth Sassi Holford, who, despite the many hurdles and curveballs 2020 has thrown at us, has managed to launch her magnificent 2021 collection, Asteria. “But brides are still determined their wedding will be a joyful celebration for them, their partner and their families,” she continues. “This has been my creative inspiration.”

It’s certainly inspired: named after the Greek goddess of stars and designed and made in Somerset, the line is a paean to femininity, a tribute to Sassi’s inimitable approach to the sharpest of structures and silhouettes (who else could whip up a simple silk crepe gown like Saskia, top, and make such a compelling case for minimalism?).

Expect plenty of signature plunging necklines (Sassi has these mastered), refined sleeves and full skirts, as well as some more unexpected details – the directional 3D laser-cut appliqué that cascades down Riva’s skirt, above centre, is the most elegant ode to a shredder we’ve ever seen.

“There’s a liberating freshness running through the range,” summarises Sassi. “The designs and confident cuts flatter the female form in the most sublime way.” Instant classics: that’s Sassi Holford for you.
