“It took extensive research to determine where in Scotland we were going to get married. At that point, we lived in London and other than having a ‘rustic country’ look in mind (in homage to our love of woodland walks), we were open to anywhere in the country.

We road-tripped to around 20 different venues. Gean House was last on our list, but we knew we’d found the one. It has a charming, homely feel and because it’s exclusive use, it meant we could have a relaxed house party feel to our wedding. The gardens are beautiful, and we really wanted to spend a good part of our day outdoors, assuming the weather allowed. Billy and all the staff were helpful and accommodating too, which made the place an easy choice for us.

The ceremony was beautiful and special thanks to our celebrant. Mary Wallace is hands down one of the most amazing, friendly and genuine people we have ever met. She simply ‘got’ us after just one meeting. The service had everything we wanted: laughs, tears and a personal touch.

We personalised our wedding in every way possible. This was important as we wanted the day to truly represent us. I created our own ‘C&S’ wedding monogram and designed and made all our woodland-themed stationery. I also made wishing tree-style table centres from foraged branches. My mum also made massive batches of tablet for favours. It’s the best we’ve ever had.

I wish we had the wedding filmed as it flew by so quickly. I would’ve loved a video of, for example, the spontaneous game of rounders that saw some guests running – impressively – with a bat in one hand and wine in other! Thankfully, some of our friends and family recorded parts of the ceremony and first dance on their phones and we have wonderful photos to look back on too.”

Top tip:Meet all your suppliers. This gives you a feel for who they are and if they’re the right fit for you. It also makes any customisation easier, as the vendor can gauge you too!”
