Cluny Castle gets a makeover

Cluny Castle’s prime Aberdeenshire location makes it an idyllic venue for photography

For the last few months, a team has been hard at work, renovating majestic Cluny Castle in Aberdeenshire, beavering away on a full upgrade of the top floor and the West Wing apartment, as well as the addition of accommodation for up to 26 guests. Now, at last, the latter is complete. “The first phase of the bedroom refurb is finished and we are finally up and running with six beautiful new luxury ensuite bedrooms,” announces the venue’s owner Cosmo Linzee Gordon. “We’ve approached the refurbishment with bold and creative ideas; however, we were also very conscious of respecting the castle’s unique history and building on its remarkable heritage. We want to offer spaces that reflect Cluny’s distinct Scottish identity – opulent, yet with a warm, welcoming and relaxed charm.

“Specifically, we can now sleep 10 guests in five bedrooms as part of the West Wing apartment and of the six bedrooms on the first floor of the castle, five are ensuite,” he continues. “The remaining two bedrooms and additional ensuite is due to start being renovated this month. We’re hoping to be finished by the end of December, meaning that we’ll have eight luxury ensuite bedrooms (seven doubles and a twin) on the first floor to host 16 loved ones and also the five bedrooms (four doubles and a twin) within the West Wing, accommodating a total of 26 guests.”

Dating back to the 14th century, Cluny Castle has 200 acres of landscaped grounds and now that your nearest and dearest can hang out for the weekend, you’ll actually be able to fully enjoy and experience all the venue has to offer, with no limitations. “There is the potential to do so much more with the castle,” Cosmo admits. “We really want to showcase the unrivalled range of facilities, activities and possibilities here. We’re looking forward to what the future will bring.” That makes two of us.
