“When we first discussed our wedding plans, we decided we’d try to get married in 2018. In the end, we pulled everything together in just seven-and-a-half months.
Our venue search focused on Glasgow city centre. At Arta, we were blown away by the romantic, hacienda styling and accommodating team. The ceremony setting was sealed.
We wanted our reception to be one big party. We have wide circles of friends and large families, so we didn’t want anyone missing out. We investigated Glasgow’s biggest-capacity venues and the minute we walked into The Old Fruitmarket, we got excited envisaging our celebration there.
We are both musical theatre fans – it is actually how we met one another – so in homage, we named the tables after shows we have performed in together. We also had friends from the stage perform a few songs during the ceremony.
We were concerned moving venues might create a lull in the day. In order to inject a bit of a party atmosphere, we had the Rollin’ Drones lead us across Merchant Square to the evening do. We didn’t tell anyone it was happening, so seeing the reaction on the faces of everyone we love was quite something.
We both work for F3 Entertainments, so signed up its act The Jersey Tones to play at the reception. Later, Fudge Machine kept the shindig going all night playing a vast mixture of music and a little ceilidh too.
We had previously worked with photographer Kev Moulds on theatre shoots, and had absolute trust in him to take the lead on capturing our day. The result is an amazing array of candid photographs of everyone enjoying themselves, but not realising the camera was on them.”
Top tip: “It’s your day, so if/when it starts to get a bit overwhelming or stressful take a step back and remember it’s only really about two people. It’s alright to listen to people’s opinions, but you can’t please everyone all the time so don’t try to, just be you!”
