“We got engaged in October 2013. Stephen got down on one knee in New York’s Central Park on the Bow Bridge. It was all very romantic.

We wanted the look of our day to be glamorous but classy. Loads of lace and ivory, nudes, golds and lilacs. In terms of atmosphere, we really just wanted all our friends and family to have fun!

I decided to make some finishing touches myself (with the help of my family and friends) using Pinterest as inspiration. We made lavender place cards wrapped with a luggage tag and guest’s names on them. We had a cigar bar with personalised matches which was really popular. I also organised baskets filled with flip-flops for the ladies so they could take their heels off at night. This went down a storm!

I wish I could wear my lace fishtail Pronovias wedding dress over and over again. It was from Kavelle Couture in Edinburgh and as soon as I tried it on I was thrilled with how it looked. We searched for months to get the right bridesmaid dresses. My colour scheme was gold, cream and nude and I wanted the dresses to be soft gold or a nude colour. In the end I choose BIBA maxi dresses from House of Fraser.

We both love music and it played an important part in the day. We had two bands perform at our reception: Franco played in the afternoon when our guests arrived, then we had The Vinyls in the evening. Both bands were superb and the dancefloor was never empty.

Top tip: I would recommend every bride uses Pinterest to help them plan their day! In addition, enjoy every minute of the whole experience and don’t get caught up in the small things by remembering what it’s really all about.”
