22nd April 2017
“Although we now live in Kent, we both wanted to get married back home in Scotland. We knew Jo, who runs The Cow Shed Crail, from school and had seen how amazing the venue looked. There were no other contenders. On the day, it exceeded our expectations thanks to Jo and her team.
When we enquired, Jo told us she had just one date left for 2017. We booked it immediately, leaving us with only three-and-a-half months to plan the rest of the wedding. We have two beautiful children – Sophie and Lockie – so we decided that the wedding was going to be very kid-friendly.
For our ceremony at Crail Parish Church, Sophie had a basket of flowers, but to give Lockie something to do, I gave him a sign (made by stationer Mayflower Atelier) that read ‘Here Comes The Love of Your Life’. Hilariously, he walked down the aisle with the sign twisted around. I can only imagine guests were wondering why he was carrying a blank piece of wood!
With the décor, the aim was to create a vibrant and colourful backdrop with memorable flowers at its heart. Florist Linzi’s (at Jack Fleuriste) creative talent was such an inspiration. The moment I stepped into the venue to see it in all its glory for the first time, I was blown away. Linzi, Abby at Mayflower Atelier, and Kate and Jean from wedding stylist The Little White Cow all created an absolute dream setting for us.
The speeches were fantastic. I was rather nervous prior to my dad’s as he does have a tendency to be slightly wacky but he toned it down for me – just enough to be acceptable! Paul’s speech was heartfelt and emotional, while best man Colin did a brilliant job. He was the perfect balance of funny and emotional.”
Top tip: “Research your key suppliers early on and everything else will fall into place. If you find the right ones, they will guide you through the sometimes overwhelming world of wedding planning.”
