“We got engaged on Christmas Day in 2016. When Becky woke up I told her I had a gift I wanted to give her before we joined her parents, and gave her a small box to open with a ring inside it.
Later on, I nipped upstairs to grab something and Becky followed me and proposed back to me! She had been planning to ask me, with an elaborate plan in place, but I foiled her plans and beat her to it.
We decided on a small ceremony and intimate reception, but the one thing we absolutely had to have was a great photographer. We chose Justina from Iris Art and she was incredible. Our ceremony was held the registry offices in Glasgow, partly because of the proximity to George Square, which we knew would provide amazing photo opportunities with the Christmas lights and decorations.
The Corinthian Club was perfect for our party of 13 – the private dining rooms, helpful staff and great food made this an easy choice.
We wanted to embrace the beauty of the winter season in Scotland. This can be seen our our bouquets, which included blue thistle, pinecones and cranberries. Emma is from California, so a handfasting was a nice way to introduce some Scottish tradition – but she also upheld a family custom by taping US pennies to the insoles of her shoes.”
Top tip: “Consider what you and your partner truly want before, and throughout, the planning process. Weddings can often become about other people, and this takes away from what you really want.”
