“We had been together for so many years and hadn’t been in a rush to get married. Then one day late last year we decided just to do it.

We booked the venue seven months in advance and that got the ball rolling. A little bit of spontaneity actually focuses the mind – decisions just need to be made!

We’ve always loved Lochgreen House in Troon and have gone there for other family celebrations. The food is amazing so that was something ticked off my ever-growing checklist. We chose the first day of spring but little did we know what the weather had in store.

The Beast from the East arrived three days before the wedding and caused the entire UK to come to a standstill. We feared the worst, and many of our guests had their travel plans disrupted. The night before the wedding my hairdressers dug out their car from five feet of snow and parked it on the main road so they could drive to Troon in the morning.

Despite the cold, we loved having our photos taken. The adrenaline kept us going and we were totally at ease smiling and laughing in -2° with snowflakes fluttering around us.

One of our favourite moments of the day was when we lit a candle for our late parents. We had their photographs on the signing table and our registrar took a few moments in the ceremony to explain we were lighting a candle in remembrance.

My original thought was definitely not an ivory wedding dress, but I soon realised that I didn’t feel, or look, like a bride. My bridemaid Jacqui persuaded me to try on a Ben De Lisi dress and it was a lightbulb moment when I realised it was my dream dress!”

Top tip: “It’s easy to get bogged down in the details and want everything to be perfect. When the snow came it meant I didn’t end up getting my last minute beauty treatments, but none of those things really matter. All that mattered was our family was able to make it safely.”
