“The first wedding decision we made was the venue. We chose Lochside Hotel, Lodges & Spa for the ceremony and reception. We hired the two lodges for the whole weekend, both with hot tubs.

It wasn’t intentional, but everyone commented on how similar our dresses ended up being! We also gave each other the exact same gift and the same card.

The ceremony celebrated the bond we share. We individually chose some sand before pouring it into a jar to symbolise bringing our lives together and showing that we, like sand, can’t be separated.

Family is everything to us and it was important that they were involved in our day. Both of us walked down the aisle with our dads, and our mums lit candles to represent our separate lives and families before lighting a middle candle to signify our union.

We put details into our day that reflected who we are as a couple and how we ended up together. Our table names were the places we had travelled to and where we had met. I couldn’t resist getting a massive cake – I wanted to go all out and it was so worth it as it told the story of our lives together so far. It was amazing work from our star supplier Marie-Clare Cake Design.

The two of us still wanted to have best men and bridesmaids. However, as we were both brides we weren’t sure how it would work. We ended up doing it our own way and had a best man and a bridesmaid each, which meant we could still have all the important people right beside us.

The day finished with ‘Loch Lomond’, the traditional Scottish party anthem. As Amy’s family are English, they didn’t quite know how it went, causing much merriment.

Nothing really changed from what we had planned to what we got – if anything, it was even better! We wouldn’t change a thing. It truly was the best day of our lives.”

Top tip: “Enjoy your day – it will go by so fast. Take five minutes alone yourselves to take it all in. Newlyweds are often so busy trying to see everyone that they hardly get to see each other.”
