We looked at so many different barns, woodland venues and camping sites all over the country. When we found Dalduff Farm we knew it was perfect and meant that we could have the ceremony and reception all in one place. Owner James and his team were super-relaxed, knowledgeable and reassuring. Nothing was too much trouble.

The food at Dalduff was incredible. Rory loves to barbecue, and that’s at the heart of the Dalduff ‘wedding feast’. We chose several sharing plates including superb pork belly and mind-blowing stone bass. Dinner was the part of the day we got most compliments about and everyone said it was the best food they’d ever had at a wedding!

The farm has an amazing rustic atmosphere and look, so we just added some finishing touches with ivy, hessian and lace. It didn’t need too much else. James even let us have a root around in one of the farm’s outbuildings to see what we could use for signs and decorations. We had a theme of ‘F&R’ which ran through our invitations, table stationery and even on the labels for our favours (beer brewed by Rory’s brother and heart-shaped shortbread baked by Rory’s mum). Rory made all of those bits and that was a lovely touch.

May Hill from the Scottish Humanist Society was our celebrant. We included a handfasting, readings from friends and family as well as music which meant something to us both. My highlight was turning the corner at the bottom of the aisle, to a song that I love (Nat King Cole’s When I Fall In Love) and seeing Rory at the end of the aisle – with an expression on his face that made me feel so beautiful and loved. I will never forget that moment.

My bridesmaids’ speeches were outstanding. I didn’t know they had written a song about me and our relationship and it was single-handedly the funniest thing I have ever witnessed! They’d put so much effort in and it really raised the roof. It was so special.

Top tip: Don’t be afraid to ask your friends and family if they can help with little things. It can save a lot of time and money and can add to your theme super easily.”
