bride and groom in hotel grounds“We got engaged on 17th July 2016 in Bath. We’re both dancers, so I was in technical rehearsals for Groundhog Day: The Musical at The Old Vic and Jonny had been in Bristol the week before performing in Guys and Dolls. My birthday is 21st July, so Jonny suggested a day out the weekend before. Breakfast, Roman Baths, thermal spa, massages, canal walk, stunning hotel – the works. We took a little rest on a bench in a secluded area of a beautiful park and he got down on one knee.

The first decision we made was choosing our bridesmaids and groomsmen. I got my girls balloons so when they popped them, there was a little note inside asking them to be my bridesmaids. We originally booked Cameron House, but due to the tragic fire we had to rearrange. Luckily, Mar Hall was available on our date and they had just renovated the stunning ballroom.

Venue stylist Jordana Events was our star supplier. Jonny’s dad said there were two breathtaking moments on the day: one was when my dad and I walked down the aisle, and the other was when everyone saw the ceremony room for the first time. There was an audible gasp – her work is stunning!

Leigh Blaney was my makeup artist and I was over the moon with her work. Everyone looked and felt amazing. She used to be a dancer herself, so fitted right in with my girlies. We had such a laugh getting ready in the morning.

Our friends are all musically and theatrically talented. One of my bridesmaids (who is currently playing Elphaba in Wicked) sang my mum and dad’s favourite song, The Beatles’ And I Love Her, as we signed the register, then our friend Emma ended up on stage singing with Tom McGuire and The Brassholes (best band ever!). Later, when the champagne was flowing, I spotted my friend Steven in a bridesmaid dress and my ’maid, Gen, wearing his suit! Steve is a fabulous drag queen so we didn’t expect anything less!”

Top tip: “Try to buy bits and bobs little and often. I did this over the course of 18 months, so that I wasn’t left with a big bill at the end. It really helped.”
