“We didn’t actually start planning until January 2018, leaving only six months to get everything together. It was a little hectic to say the least. Up to that point, the only decision we’d made was where to have our photos taken: Greenbank Garden in Clarkston, a place I’d always loved.
We invited just 20 of our closest family to the ceremony and a handful more to the evening do. We were surrounded by all our favourite people, so we felt no pressure and having fewer guests allowed us to spend time chatting to all our guests.
We chose to have our registry office ceremony in the white, modern Kelvin Room at 23 Montrose Street in Glasgow. All that mattered was getting married in front of our family, so it was an ideal size for our small guest list.
Finding our reception venue, on the other hand, proved a little tricky at first. We discovered quite a few wedding venues didn’t cater to our mini party. A fortuitous suggestion led us to the private function room at The Orchard Park in Giffnock. We grew up in the area and still live locally, so we felt it was a solid choice. The team was very accommodating with our menu choices, letting us put on family favourites of garlic prawns and steak-and-ale pie.
I spent many months on Pinterest gathering inspiration for the brightly coloured, boho-glam decor look I was after. I did as much of the prep and sourcing/making decorations myself as I could. On the day, my good friend Tricia was on hand to dress the reception venue. I really couldn’t have done it without her.
I adore peonies and knew I wanted my flowers to tie in with our theme. I asked florist Cora Anderson to pin a gold locket with a picture of my late father into my bouquet so he was there with me on the day. It meant the world to me and I now have my gorgeous bouquet preserved in a frame on our wall.
I did my own hair and makeup. I didn’t like the thought of not feeling like my normal self, so just did my usual look, but a little more glam!”
Top tip: “Accept offers of help. I like doing things myself, but I wish I had been less proud and taken some assistance a bit more. Even though our wedding wasn’t that big, I found planning quite overwhelming at times.”
