“Someone else’s misfortune worked in our favour. We dreamed of marrying by a Scottish loch and had our hearts set on Cameron House; we just knew it was the right place and didn’t bother viewing anywhere else. Availability proved to be an issue though, as the hotel had no Saturdays free for about two years. However, we ended up getting lucky and landed 5th August 2017 due to a cancellation.

I have always wanted a church wedding and felt it was nice to have a separate venue for the ceremony. We secured nearby St. Kessog’s Church in Balloch along with priest, Father John Campbell, from Sacred Heart Church in Cumbernauld.

We felt a lot of the current wedding trends didn’t really fit the venue or weren’t right for us, so we kept the overall vibe quite traditional and Scottish. My beautiful Suzanne Neville dress, for example, was a timeless classic. I had begun to get disheartened and thought that I’d never find a style or shape I liked – until I visited Eleganza Sposa in Glasgow. The girls in the Bath Street boutique worked exceptionally hard to help me find ‘The One’.

Ed is a graphic designer, which came in very handy for our invitations and stationery. We managed to find a printer who could source the desired card and foil block our design. We also had a travel theme for the meal and each table was named after a different country from our previous holidays. Getting married was the start of our biggest adventure yet!

The reception was one of the parts of the day we were most excited about. We couldn’t wait to see our band, the fantastic Tom McGuire and the Brassholes, play. They didn’t disappoint! Tom also played an acoustic solo set at the drinks reception and we made a playlist for the meal and for the end of the evening. Having the dancefloor full all evening was one of the most joyous points of the day – we literally didn’t stop dancing.”

Top tip:For those unsure about booking a wedding film: do it! We hadn’t initially considered a video, but it was one of the best things we could have done. Butterfly Wedding Films was brilliant and even stayed later for the dancing when our meal ran late.”
