The location

Virgin Hotels Edinburgh has married the iconic architecture of the Old Town with contemporary design to make it one of the coolest places to wed in the Capital. With plenty of incredible spaces for us to explore – including the Greyfriars Hall, a stunning restored church, the sultry Scarlett Lounge with plush red interiors, the light and airy Oculus atrium and the opulently decorated Eve Branson Suite – it provided the perfect backdrop for our luxe ‘It girl’ marrying in the city vibe.

The makeup

To create a makeup look perfect for a bride with a certain je ne sais quoi, Lauren at AMM Hair and Makeup Team kept things soft, but went sleek on the eyes. “I focussed on creating a luxurious, glowing skin base to enhance Jessica’s natural beauty, using Charlotte Tilbury Flawless Filter under Armani foundation for a ‘lit from within’ finish. I had Dior’s Backstage highlighter palette on hand as well, which is a fave in my bridal kit. It can be used on both skin and eyes to create an elegant look.”

The hair

Anne Marie at AMM Hair and Makeup Team explained how she created Jess’ glamorous waves: “I used L’Oréal PLI which is a light product that grips and holds the hair. Using GHD’s classic curl tong, we styled the locks then pinned them, in order to give a more lasting hold as they cool. I used GHD Shine Spray after, combed the hair into waves, and clipped in place to set. This look was then easily changed into a high pony. For the last look, we took some inspo from Brigitte Bardot with a textured French roll. The key to changing styles is spending time prepping hair well.”

The flowers

The fabulous Pixie Rose Edinburgh, based within Virgin Hotels Edinburgh, created two dreamy bridal bouquets for the shoot and kept the design clean, chic and beautifully simple. Florist Rowena said: “We opted for only three floral ‘ingredients’: statement avalanche roses, (we reflexed the petals to create mini dancing ‘ballerinas’); frilly lisianthus (used at varying heights to create depth) and finally, locally grown parrot tulips from East Lothian Flower Farm. They opened up magnificently on the day!”
