“We’d originally planned to get married abroad but changed our minds after John had a period of ill-health. We live close to Pollok House and have a really strong affinity with the park in general, so it seemed like the natural choice to get married there.
In October 2017, we decided to get married in Glasgow and booked Pollok House for three months later. We only had 13 guests at our wedding so decided to have a meal and a few drinks rather than a formal reception. Pollok House were able to cater for our requirements and arranged the house’s dining room for the meal.
I forgot my bouquet! Because of the time of year and short timeframe, we couldn’t find a florist to fulfil an order for real flowers so bought a couple of silk bouquets instead. When I pulled up at the venue I realised I didn’t have them. It was more funny than annoying and didn’t make the slightest bit of difference to the day.
Our photographer Morag had some great suggestions for getting the best out of our photos. As our wedding was in late December, and there was a risk of unpredictable weather also a lack of daylight, she suggested a ‘first look’. We met on a bridge before the ceremony with no guests present. This was perfect for us as neither of us enjoy the limelight and now we have several photos of this special moment of just the two of us in the winter sun.”
Top tip: “Sometimes the smallest things cause the biggest hassle, so if you don’t really need them, don’t bother with them.”
