“We got engaged when we were on holiday with friends in Barcelona. Chris somehow managed to get me to suggest we should spend the morning on our own and then proceeded to behave very strangely for two hours! When he got down on one knee, I swore, then I cried, then he cried…then we drank cava!

Technically the honeymoon was the first major wedding-planning decision we made. We decided on the day we got engaged that we’d go to Japan. Pollokshields Burgh Hall was the first venue we looked at. It ticked all the boxes, but we still checked out a couple of others to make sure we’d made the right choice.

My brothers Graeme and Malcolm conducted the ceremony. We were keen to have someone we knew do it as it is the most important part of the day. They did a fantastic job of showing why we are such a good match in a light-hearted but sentimental way. A registrar introduced the ceremony and closed it with the legal part.

I am obsessed with the colour yellow so that was always going to feature heavily. I won my Rainbow Club shoes in a Facebook competition from Melle Cloche and had them dyed canary yellow, and one of the highlights of the day was when I got to the end of the aisle and faced Chris. He smiled and opened his kilt jacket (which I hadn’t seen before) and the lining was mustard yellow! It was perfect.

Craft beer was also a major influence on the wedding. We had beer bottles as vases and breweries for table names and even made our own wedding beer. We went to BrewDog’s brewery to make it and used Japanese hops and Cherry Blossom Tea to flavour it. Chris made labels for the bottles with the name of the beer in Japanese writing too.

Hats off to Three Sisters Bake who did our catering and generally managed the day. They made the venue look amazing and managed to capture exactly what we had in our heads. Plus the food was to die for.

Top tip: Decide on the areas you want to spend on, and where you want to save. We splashed out on catering and music but saved on other costs. Also keep money in the budget for hidden costs that WILL crop up in the fortnight before the wedding!”
