“We found our venue at The Scottish Wedding Show. As we approached Boclair House Hotel’s stand, we thought the building seemed familiar and realised it was just along the road from where Stephen grew up. It had been renovated into a stunning boutique wedding venue and we thought it was perfect for our day. Booking it was the first planning decision we made.

Our main motivation was for all of our guests to have an amazing time and relax in one place. For the look of the day, we were influenced by different Scottish elements, so we included a hand-fasting and drinking from the quaich during our ceremony, and used thistles in the bouquets and flower arrangements.

We received our own personalised quaich from Stephen’s sister. Getting our fathers involved by joining us in drinking from the quaich was one of my favourite moments of the day. My family comes from the Outer Hebrides so we named our tables after different Scottish islands.

Another standout moment for me was during the speeches. The best man brought out a life-size cutout of Stephen dressed up as Princess Leia on his stag do. It was hilarious!

My biggest bargain was my bridesmaids’ dresses. I snapped them up in a half-price sale at Coast and they tied in with the colour palette perfectly. I visited five other bridal boutiques before going to This Year’s Love in Hamilton. When I tried my dress on, I instantly knew it was the one. When I saw my Badgley Mischka shoes I felt the same way. I ordered them from Bloomingdale’s website in America.”

Top tip: “Plan it together as a couple because it’s much more meaningful  knowing you were both involved in your dream day.”
