Australian bridal style is all about relaxed, beachy designs – and us Scots lap it up. Designer Wendy Makin offers a more polished take on the Antipodean aesthetic – just take a look at the Solene gown, above left, which features gauzy sleeves that inject some whimsy into an elegant silhouette.

Like what you see? Then head to the Edinburgh branch of Kudos Bridal Boutiques, which will be hosting a Wendy Makin trunk show from 12th-14th May. The event is by appointment only, so check out the store’s website or give them a call to secure your spot.

They will have gowns to suit all brides on show: for those with their eye on sleek, clean silhouettes, the Aura (top right) or Addison (above, right) will tick your boxes. They are super on trend for the upcoming season: the Aura’s one-shouldered design is tipped to be hot property, while ballgowns are back with a bang in 2023, with gowns like Addison taking the bridal runways by storm of late.

The Denise gown (above, left), from the French Collection, features chic button detailing down the back, sweet floaty sleeves and a figure-hugging, column silhouette: this makes it a surefire hit with any bride looking for something that covers skin without straying into demure territory.
