Kylie Hendrie and Paul Cassidy were good friends at school but afterwards they lost touch – until they bumped into each other at a mutual friend’s wedding. Paul popped the question totally out of the blue in September 2013.

The newly engaged couple had a fair idea of what sort of day they wanted – “a traditional Catholic ceremony and a big, fun and family-oriented reception.” The natural choice for the ceremony was St Alphonsus RC Church in Glasgow’s east end, where the couple attended since moving into their flat.

The famous Barrowland Ballroom hit all the right notes when the couple checked out its potential as a reception venue. “We essentially hired just the ballroom, so we had to organise absolutely everything else. Tables, chairs, sound, drapes, stage rig and lighting had to be coordinated by us,” says Kylie.

The venue proved to be a massive inspiration for all the finishing touches. Invitations posed the question ‘Are ye dancin’?’ while Kylie designed ‘band posters’ which featured friends and family and nods to the hen and stag dos.
