“The first wedding planning decision we made was our venue. It set the date, potential guest numbers and general atmosphere for the day. Everything fell into place after that.

We had our ceremony and reception at Orocco Pier. South Queensferry is a pretty town and Orocco Pier is beautiful and modern with amazing views of the Forth Rail Bridge. As Chris is from Aberdeen and I am from Edinburgh, we’ve had many journeys over that bridge to visit each other.

We didn’t want anything too over-the-top for the look of our day, so we aimed for simple and elegant. The colour scheme was decided after finding the perfect bridesmaid dress. We made our own stationery, Chris’ mum made the cake, my mum made the favours and my dad even grew miniature succulents for our table decorations.

My favourite moment of the day was after our ceilidh, when our guests went out to the balcony and beach and lit sparklers. Seeing so many sparklers and all our guests having fun was a magical ending to perfect day.

I got my dress from Perfect Bridal Rooms in Aberbeen, the third shop I visited. I knew exactly what I was looking for, I just had to find it! I bought my shoes from Rainbow Club, who offer a dyeing service after the big day to change the colour to something more wearable. At the time, Rainbow Club had a deal on and I got mine dyed after my wedding for free.

Our photographer Jacqui was lovely, and had the perfect balance of getting the shots we wanted without being intrusive. It’s important to get your photographer right – other than your friends and family, you won’t see anyone else so much all day.”

Top tip: “Plan what to do with your dress after the wedding. It’s best to get it dry cleaned and boxed up safely as soon as you can.”
