“It was our dream to have a glamorous wedding set against an industrial backdrop, so we’d ruled out getting married in a hotel. When we visited West Brewery, the new event space The Courtyard was still a building site, but the exposed brick façade and views into the brewery were exactly what we were looking for. It was a great contrast to the colourful décor and vibrant flowers we were planning.
We both love Friends, so we subtly incorporated the show into our day. Our table names were all named after a different ‘the one with…’, our card box was painted like Monica’s apartment door, and we had a cake topper that read ‘He’s her Lobster’. We also brought our own Smeg fridge from home to display a table plan that looked like notes.
I was warned not to be late, so I moved my transport forward to 1pm for the wedding starting at 2pm. I arrived at 1.10pm so we drove around the east end of Glasgow for a while. We ended up parking in a housing estate and drinking prosecco – it made me laugh so much. Thankfully, my VW campervan was my favourite wedding detail so I didn’t mind too much!
My dress was my biggest bargain. It was the first gown I tried on, but I visited a few shops after my initial trip to Wed2Be just to make sure it was the one. Craig envisioned wearing a bright blue tuxedo after seeing Ryan Gosling wearing something similar. We looked everywhere before deciding a bespoke suit was the way to go.”
Top tip: “Take out insurance and check the excess. Unfortunately things can happen along the way so make sure you are covered.”
