“We viewed a few venues before checking out the Lochside House Hotel. When we arrived we loved everything about it, from the amazing views and long driveway to the newly built lodges. The staff were brilliant from our first visit and couldn’t have done more to help during the run-up and on the day.
I adore flowers and candles so naturally these influenced the styling and became the focal point of our top table decoration and centrepieces. My biggest bargain was a pair of vintage wooden ladders I bought on eBay for £20, which my sister sanded and painted white. We turned them into a table plan display.
Mark is a heavy metal fan and asked if I’d walk down the aisle to ‘Nothing Else Matters’ by Metallica. I immediately said no, but the more I listened to the song I realised I liked the words. I asked the guitarist from our band to learn an acoustic version and play it during our ceremony.
We asked our friend Ritchie to organise a ‘Mr and Mrs’ game after the evening buffet. We sat back-to-back on the dancefloor and answered questions about each other. Our guests loved it as much as we did!
One of my favourite personal touches was naming our tables after films we love, with our favourite quotes from each on the table number card. Our top table was It’s a Wonderful Life and included the quote: “You want the moon? Just say the word and I’ll throw a lasso around it and pull it down. I’ll give you the moon.” We made sure our flower girl Olivia was sitting at the Frozen table, as she loves that film.”
Top tip: “Don’t sweat the small stuff. All people will remember is that they had an amazing day celebrating with you.”
