It’s 29th February, and aside from being the best birthday ever (technically being a quarter of your age? Count us in!), it’s also the day that tradition decrees women can propose to men. We’re all for women proposing whenever the hell they fancy, but in the 5th century it was a little more unusual, leading to an Irish nun called St Bridget taking it up with St Patrick. They struck a deal that on the 29th February, which only occurs every four years, ladies were allowed to pop the question. It’s a tradition that’s still around, and although it’s thought only 5% of marriages occur from leap year proposals, they make for some totes heart-warming viewing.
