“As soon as I saw Glen Tanar Ballroom I fell in love and I knew this was where we would be getting married. When it came to planning everything else I knew I wanted the look of the wedding to compliment the venue, but also something rustic and simple to let the beauty of the ballroom shine through.
We had a spring wedding so we decided on a pastel and neutral colour scheme. I’ve always been a crafty person so I knew I wanted to make as much stuff as I could! I handmade the place settings, table plan and menus.
We spoke to our caterers about having an Italian-themed meal to tie in with our engagement in Rome. Our centerpieces were Italian bread buckets that the guests could eat with olive oil and vinegar. It looked so wonderfully different! We had a minestrone soup to start, followed by roast chicken on a bed of pea, leek and parmesan risotto with a parmesan crisp, and salted caramel chocolate tart for dessert.
Planning a wedding isn’t easy; however through all the stresses and worries that you will face, nothing beats the feeling when you see everything that you booked, planned and dreamed for come together. My biggest bargain was sourcing my bridesmaid dresses from ASOS – they were only £68 each!
Every single supplier surpassed my expectations and made the day what it was. I cannot thank them enough. Our photographers Russell and Laura were absolutely amazing, Niall and I were so impressed with the natural look of the shots and also how they just blended in to the day. We now have the most amazing wedding photos to cherish forever.
Top tip: Pinterest is your best friend for ideas, but don’t go crazy – as much as you think you can, you can’t make everything yourself! I took on a lot and in the end it just wasn’t feasible: know your limits and know when to ask for help, or when to get a supplier in to provide something.
