“We live in Ohio now, but Timothy is from Pennsylvania and I’m from Connecticut. We talked at length about where we would marry, and although it seemed crazy at first, after looking into it and considering Timothy’s Scottish heritage, we knew we had to get married in Scotland.
We did a significant amount of research into venues, and Cringletie was exactly what we were looking for: a beautiful house with an amazing history, that would be exclusively ours for our special day.
We had a total of 44 guests. 34 came from the US and ten were distant relatives from the UK that we had never met before.
Scotland was the main inspiration behind the look of our day. We had a hand-fasting and oathing stone during our ceremony, and placed Timothy’s family tartan on each of the tables for the wedding breakfast and on kilts on gingerbread cookie favours. We really encouraged our female guests to wear fascinators, as they are not very traditional in the States.
Before choosing to marry here, we’d never been to Scotland. We put full trust in our suppliers, and knowing we were from overseas, they were especially helpful. Each one put us at ease. The team at Cringletie were especially fantastic – they made sure every detail was covered and every moment of our time with them went without a hitch.”
Top tip: “Give your suppliers some creative space. Let them know what you’re looking for, but allow them do their thing and you’ll be amazed at the results”
