“We met at Dunblane Hydro during a sports ball whilst both studying at Stirling University, so it quickly shot to the top of our venue list. We checked out a couple of others just to be sure but, ultimately, we knew it was the place for us.

We both really wanted a summer wedding and secured the date we wanted in August – giving us just over a year to plan.

Believe it or not, one of the first things we ordered thereafter was a 6ft cinema light box! This was shortly followed by a flower wall. Although they were completely non-essential (causing much mirth among my work colleagues when I booked them), we had so many positive comments about both on the day.

I was keen to have fresh, summery pastel colours. This ran through the bridesmaid dresses, cake, flowers, table plan and any signage we used. Omar managed to get one item outwith the pastel theme – a bright red postbox. Being an Arsenal fan, this was the only way he could get the team’s colours into the wedding!

Omar is half Irish and half Palestinian, so it was important for us to include some Arabic touches. We had everyone’s place settings in English and Arabic. Later, we had some ceilidh tunes interspersed with Arabic music. It was entertaining watching family and friends mix it up on the dancefloor.

We set up a wedding website via gettingmarried.co.uk which proved really useful. Guests could RSVP, select their menu choice and transport from their phones, allowing us to pull the information straight into a spreadsheet.

I couldn’t wait for ‘Loch Lomond’ to play at the end of the night. Omar was lifted up by the guys and it was an unbeatable and unforgettable close to the party.”

Top tip: “Set some additional annual leave aside. I found we needed to take various half days in the weeks leading up to the wedding to get things finalised.”
