The trend for pastel-hued frocks for MoBs and MoGs shows no sign of letting up and it appears lavender is having a moment. Case in point, John Charles’ bateau-necklined dream (left, style 28007, £649) with chic belt detail and 3/4-length sleeves.

“This dress is crafted in luxurious jacquard and the figure-enhancing cross-over pleats on the bodice and skirt create an eye-catching focal point,” says Louise Brown at the store. We think mums will love the beading along the neckline and cuffs, as well as the pearl-embellished buckle.

As the new collection sweeps the boutique, we can’t get over the chic detailing from the latest gowns: beaded elements along necklines and hem lines offer touches of glamour as well as opulent feathers to really amp up any look.

A perfect example: the Oyster off-shoulder gown (style 28002, £849). The gathered details across the torso will create an elegant silhouette, but its the illusion neckline which is sets it apart from the rest. This really turns up the heat, and showcases the designers talents for combining elegant design features with comfortable dress shapes.

John Charles also shows how to do feathers – and do them well. The A-line gown with pleated feather-trimmed cape (above left, style 66210A, £739) and the lace fitted dress (above right, style 28005, £849)
