The coveted membership to the Master Photographers Association is achieved through a strong body of work from a professional photographer. As such, if you meet a wedding snapper that’s part of the MPA, you can be assured that not only are they creatively skilled, but they adhere to a strict code of conduct that involves insurance and upholding professional standards.

We joined the photographers at the annual MPA Scottish awards do in Dunkeld in June to celebrate with the winners. Judges were looking for the very highest standard of photography in framing, composition, lighting, print quality and expression. Congratulations to Martin Leckie, who topped the Classical Wedding category, Grant McKelvie of Dream Day Photography, who took away the Contemporary Wedding trophy, while the Reportage Wedding title was awarded to Grahame Smith of GWS Photography.

Although John and Sandra Parris of Parris Photography are stepping down as regional chairs of the association (Martin Leckie is taking over the position), the couple certainly went out on a high, sweeping the board winning seven awards, including the Complete Wedding category, Wedding Photographer of the Year and Overall Scottish Photographer of the Year.

“I always enter the MPA Awards, and I’m overjoyed to be consistently rewarded each year for my wedding work. I’m especially chuffed with my win for Contemporary Wedding this year, as that is a true reflection of my style and what I’m all about!” www.dreamdayphotography.co.uk

“The joy of seeing my brides and grooms fall in love with their photos is more than enough for me, but I’m delighted to have my work recognised by the MPA, especially when the standard is so high in Scotland. I look forward to working with all the talented members next year when I take over as chairman of the Scottish region.” www.martinleckie.com

“We are both so pleased to have won the Complete Wedding Category and be awarded the title Wedding Photographer of the Year Scotland. We are both so passionate about what we do and want every bride and groom to have the most beautiful wedding photographs possible to remember their special day by. We always advise couples to look for quality imagery when choosing their wedding photographer as it’s not something they can go back and re-do if they’re unhappy with their wedding photos.” www.parrisphotography.co.uk

“I’m really glad my wedding work has won some recognition, as it’s what I put my heart and soul into. I was really thrilled that judge David MacDonald selected my entry for the prize, he commented when I was collecting the award that as soon as he saw my work he knew I was the winner!” www.gwsphotography.co.uk
