“We got engaged on the first day of a holiday to Mexico. Craig had planned a romantic meal on the beach and I remember him acting very strangely and on edge. After our meal, he got up to ‘pour me some wine’; instead, he went down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I didn’t even manage to say yes – I just cried!
Since then, the country holds a special place in our hearts – particularly the music and the cocktails. When Craig suggested that we have a Mariachi band and margaritas I laughed, as I thought he was joking. He wasn’t. So, we found a fantastic Mexican band and drank tequila during our drinks reception.
I think we travelled the length and breadth of the country to find our venue. We really wanted something quite Scottish, almost castle-like, but warm and welcoming. When we visited Brig O’ Doon House Hotel in Ayrshire, we knew it was the one. The amazing ballroom, the lights, the gardens, the staircase…we were in awe.
The decor drew inspiration from my elegant Suzanne Neville dress that I bought in Eleganza Sposa. After that, I seemed to be drawn to soft, subtle colours such as blush pink and pale purple.
The best part of the day for us was undoubtedly the speeches. We laughed, we cried, we blushed. 1500 Photography, aka Stuart Wood, was on hand to capture it all. His work was fantastic. When we met him we knew he would be ideal for us: he was funny, professional and made us feel really comfortable.“
Top tip: “Our only slight wish was that we arranged to go on honeymoon a bit later than we did, so we could’ve spent more time with family and friends after our big day.”
