New issue preview

‘Girl power’ is not just a relic from a 1997 Spice Girls annual, but something we have wholeheartedly embraced this issue.

First, our fit-to-burst fashion section sees two girl gangs of photographers, stylists, models and makeup artists tackle a double dose of bridal fashion stories and the results are knockout. Current Miss Scotland Romy McCahill (girl crush alert) comes over all Southern belle in flirty, frothy gowns, cowboy boots and hand-painted leather jackets at spectacular new Galloway venue GG’s Yard, while Perthshire’s Murthly Castle plays regal host to happy-go-lucky model Holly Hepburn while she rocks some showstopping bridal sleeves.

Everyone’s favourite duchess-in-waiting Meghan Markle not only slays sartorially speaking, but is a passionate advocate of women’s rights and a champion for equality between the sexes. Come 19th May, we’re excited at the thought of her taking to the mic and making her own big day speech (you go, girl!) and if you’re looking for a slice of that same empowerment, flick to this issue’s Talking Point, which asks the question: can you have a truly feminist wedding? If you follow the example of brides like Meghan, we have no doubt.

In our venues section, we explore the trials and tribulations of finding an accessible spot to tie the knot if you or one of your guests have mobility issues, and champion hotels, stately homes and rustic spaces whose big day-ready interiors require no extra decoration or fuss.

And, if you’re after your bi-monthly dose of real-life weddings, you won’t be disappointed: there’s the twosome that invited the entire village to their reception, the bride who DIY’d much of her late summer shindig and a hearty party in a foliage-enveloped, clear-roofed marquee that needs to be seen to be believed.
