“Ryan popped the question whilst walking round the swan river at Gleneagles in August 2016, and amid the rolling hills of Perthshire was where we chose to set our wedding.
I knew I wanted to get married in a church, but otherwise was pretty open-minded when it came to reception venue. We scoped out marquees but ultimately decided a hotel was the best option, and we weren’t wrong: it was great having our closest friends and family stay in the same place and have breakfast together the next day.
After booking DoubleTree by Hilton Dunblane Hydro, everything else fell into place relatively smoothly and I began to secure suppliers with deposits. Our team of vendors shone almost as brightly as the sun (we married on one of 2018’s hottest days).
I had a brilliant experience shopping for my dress at Avorio Bridal, Fochabers. ‘The One’ turned out to be a gorgeous lace dress that transitioned beautifully from day to night. I wore a lace illusion bodysuit underneath to cover my shoulders and arms during the ceremony, and removed it ahead of the reception for a more ‘evening’ look.
My favourite wedding detail was the gorgeous floristry by Blairgowrie-based Something Special Flowers – although I must say the cake was fantastic too. Laura at Jappacakes baked an array of different flavours including lemon, chocolate orange, white chocolate and raspberry, and Victoria sponge.
Makeup by Sharon Cuthbert was amazing too. My makeup didn’t have to be touched up at all. We were so impressed that my sister has already booked Sharon for her own wedding in 2021!“
Top tip: “Take into consideration how quickly everything (especially bands) gets booked up. After securing a venue, I would suggest other couples look to book their evening entertainment first.”
