“The first decision we had to make was where to get married. I grew up on a farm in Aberdeenshire whereas Kieran is Glasgow born and bred, so we needed to decide if we wanted a wedding in the countryside or a city wedding.
We plumped for a city wedding after visiting Hotel du Vin’s One Devonshire Gardens. It’s beautiful, has a relaxed atmosphere and we knew our guests would be well looked after. Events co-ordinator, John, was very accommodating and well-organised in the lead-up to the big day. Because we had the whole townhouse, the atmosphere was very much like inviting all of our friends and family to our home for the weekend.
The venue was the main inspiration behind the look of our wedding. The interior’s colour scheme is quite neutral (gold, navy blue and light pinks) so I used flowers to inject some colour.
We had a humanist ceremony conducted by celebrant, Jess Fitzgerald. The ceremony was relaxed and we had a few laughs throughout which set up a happy atmosphere that carried on throughout the day.
My dress was the second one I tried on and I knew straight away it was the one for me. I didn’t want anything too fussy but wanted to look elegant and feel comfortable. It was by designer Suzanne Neville at Perfect Bridal Rooms in Aberdeen. My granny made the wedding favours. She spent the week before the wedding making toffee for all our guests. It was a big hit and our guests couldn’t get enough of it.
Kieran knocked my mum’s hat off when she was giving me away. It helped relieve the nerves after walking down the aisle! Later on, mother of the bride and mother of the groom had a dance off in the evening reception!
