Surrounded by rugged, coastal panoramas and babbling rivers at her base in Orkney, jeweller Sheila Fleet doesn’t have to hunt far for inspiration. Captivate, her newest collection, draws from the expanse of water that Sheila looks out across everyday.
“Captivate is influenced by a beautiful, natural phenomenon,” she explains. “As currents cascade over rocks and stones in Scotland’s burns, particles and minerals are set free, only to be caught again in crevices further downstream. Gold is often captured this way and this prompted me to create a range in sterling silver and nine carat yellow gold.”
The pieces translate this geographical concept quite literally into a series of organic shapes, with earrings, pendants and necklets comprising trapped, pearl-like ‘particles’ sandwiched between curved ‘rocks’. The result is utterly unique.
And she hasn’t stopped there. “Alongside Captivate, I also have my new stone-set Matrix rings,” Sheila reveals. “These textured rings feature colourful, precious stones and diamonds and make wonderful engagement and wedding ring sets. Each gem is set by hand and the rings are made-to-measure in my Orkney workshop.
“You can mix-and-match, stack, or wear individually or as an eye-catching diamond ring set,” she explains. “They are creative and fun.”
To get up and close and personal with both collections, head to Edinburgh where Sheila will run a four-day Meet the Designer event from 26th-29th October at her concession in Jenners and offer 10% loyalty discount across all of her designs and extensive range of silver, gold, platinum and diamond jewellery and rings.
