“David and I got engaged in April 2016 at Everest Base Camp. It was a couple of days before we could get phone reception to share our news with family and friends but this meant we got to enjoy a wonderful secret for a while in one of the most beautiful places in the world. By the time we got home, David had already started planning the wedding and had spoken to the church in my home town of Stirling.
The most important thing for us was having our friends and family around to celebrate our wedding with us. This shaped almost all of our planning, along with our decision to have a winter wedding in Scotland.
In the run up to the big day, I was living in Kent and David was relocating with his cat from New York, which made it feel like we were planning a destination wedding at times.
After deciding the overall feel we wanted for the day we spent a lot of time researching and carefully selecting our suppliers. All of the people we worked with were fantastic and their years of experience helped guide us – by listening to their advice and ideas we ended up with a perfect day which was much better than we could have envisaged at the outset.
It’s almost impossible to pick our favourite memories from the day because there were so many – from the guest who travelled from Namibia to Scotland for the weekend, to the joy of a quiet moment together on the drive from the church to the hotel as we enjoyed our first few minutes of married life with a glass of champagne.”
Top tip: “Have fun and don’t sweat the small stuff. Even the small things that went wrong have left us with funny stories that contributed to it being such a special day. I don’t think I’ll ever go to Sainsbury’s in a Bentley wearing a wedding dress again, but it was all part of a wonderful day which we wouldn’t change for the world.”
